Upload WAV, MP3 or FLAC. Trace reads the audio structure and checks available provenance and metadata.
Forensic audio signals are compared and mapped across the track. Trace builds a spectrogram and identifies localized evidence regions.
Your report combines provenance, master-level signals and timeline evidence. Click the waveform to hear the regions Trace is referring to.
Where deeper examination is useful, stem-level analysis can separately examine vocals, drums, bass and other elements.
Trace is a forensic screening tool. It reports characteristics and evidence found in the submitted audio; it is not proof of origin. Results remain available in My Scans.

You can check a song for AI-related characteristics using a free AI music detector. But “free” can mean a daily allowance, a limited report or a few introductory scans. Before uploading, check what the tool actually returns and how it explains its results.
This guide compares TRACE, Authio and The Ghost Production using their published product information. It is a feature overview, not a controlled accuracy test. Catalyse develops TRACE, which is included in the comparison.
| Tool | Free allowance | Account required | Free upload formats and limit | What the free scan provides |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TRACE | Two introductory master scans; no recurring reset | Verified account | WAV, MP3, FLAC; up to eight minutes and 250 MB | Current master report with provenance checks, audio signals and timeline evidence |
| Authio | Two analyses per day | No signup for the free checker | MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, AIFF; up to 100 MB | Human, Hybrid or AI verdict; generator attribution is locked |
| The Ghost Production | Three guest scans per day; its free registered tier advertises 30 per month | No account for guest scans | MP3, WAV; up to 50 MB | AI or Human verdict; detailed scores and component breakdown require payment |
Allowances and features may change. Check the linked product pages before uploading.
TRACE screens music masters for available provenance, metadata and AI-related audio characteristics. Its current report presents evidence strength, evidence coverage and regions that can be reviewed alongside the recording.
New verified accounts receive two introductory credits without a credit card. One credit covers one completed master scan, including the current report. Saved reports can be reopened without spending another credit.
TRACE is currently in testing. Its pricing page lists planned one-time packs of €9 for 10 credits, €19 for 25 and €39 for 60. Purchases are not yet enabled. Separate stem analysis is also a future feature.
Consider it if: you want to examine the findings behind a master-level screening result. Evidence coverage describes where TRACE found reportable evidence; it is not a measurement of how much of the music was made with AI.
Authio’s free checker offers two daily analyses without signup. It accepts five audio formats and returns Human, Hybrid or AI classifications. Authio describes the free service as a five-model ensemble; paid forensic analysis adds more detailed evidence and attribution.
The Hybrid category is relevant when generated audio appears alongside human performances. However, a hybrid label should not be read as a reconstruction of the production process.
Consider it if: you want a recurring free allowance and a result that explicitly distinguishes hybrid recordings. Read its result documentation before interpreting the percentages.
The Ghost Production’s detector says it is powered by ACRCloud. It advertises three free guest scans daily and a registered free tier with 30 scans monthly. Free uploads support MP3 and WAV up to 50 MB.
Its free result is a simple AI or Human verdict. Paid features include probability scores, generator identification, vocal and accompaniment breakdowns, and reports. The site also advertises one-time scan packs alongside subscriptions.
Consider it if: you want a quick guest check and are comfortable with a basic verdict. Verify which details are included before choosing a paid option.
A displayed percentage needs a definition. It could represent a model’s probability estimate, confidence in a verdict or another detection signal. Those are different measurements.
Authio explicitly defines its Human Origin and AI Origin pair as a full-mix signal and its complement. It says these figures are not composition or contribution percentages. A result showing 40% AI Origin therefore does not establish that 40% of the track’s duration, instruments or creative work came from AI.
TRACE’s evidence coverage answers another question: where did the current analysis find reportable evidence? It should not be compared directly with an origin probability.
For each tool, ask: what does the number measure, what evidence supports it, and what does the tool say it cannot establish? Authio’s documentation provides a useful example of these distinctions.
A generated vocal over human-produced accompaniment is a different case from a fully generated song. It raises two questions: can the detector notice generated audio in the mix, and can it reliably identify the source?
A Hybrid label addresses the first question. Source-level evidence is needed to support the second. A label alone does not identify the vocal, bass or drums as AI-generated.
The services described here offer different levels of detail. This guide has not tested their performance on known hybrid recordings, so it does not name an accuracy winner.
A “Human” result should not be treated as a certificate that no AI was used. An AI flag should prompt review rather than an automatic accusation.
For recurring guest checks, compare Authio and The Ghost Production. For an account-based master report with evidence regions, TRACE offers two introductory scans. These are workflow choices, not accuracy rankings.
Choose a tool whose allowance fits your needs and whose report explains its findings clearly. Establishing which detector performs best requires known-origin recordings, human controls and a documented comparison.
Try TRACE with two introductory master scans, or explore the alternative tools linked above.

An explainer is educational guidance. Test notes describe documented experiments; neither format certifies an individual track.

A generated vocal over human instrumentation raises a different question from an entirely generated song. A master-level label cannot describe every contribution.

ai musicmusic productionhybrid musicTRACE is currently in testing. This page outlines the current service. Final purchase terms and privacy information will be published before payments and public launch.
TRACE screens submitted audio for provenance, metadata and measurements associated with AI-generated material. A result is not proof of who created a track. Ordinary production and processing may explain suspicious measurements, and a scan may miss AI-generated material.
Only upload audio you have permission to submit. Saved scans are accessed through your signed-in account. An identical upload in your own account can open its saved report for free; a new analysis requires confirmation of its displayed credit cost.
Credit purchases are not yet enabled. Launch packs are €9 for 10 credits, €19 for 25 credits and €39 for 60 credits. One credit covers one completed master scan; failed processing does not consume a credit. Purchased credits will be valid for 12 months from purchase, with no subscription or automatic renewal. Final purchase and refund terms will be published before checkout opens.
Audio is stored to support saved-report playback and is automatically deleted 30 days after a completed scan. The report remains in My Scans after the audio expires. You can delete a scan earlier at any time; deleting a scan removes its saved report, stored audio and playback copy, and revokes its report invitations. A fuller privacy policy will be published before public launch.
